“We pay some of the highest taxes in the entire United States. It’s about time we saw a reflection of that that isn’t just money leaving our wallets.”

Issues

  • Affordability

    • We pay some of the highest taxes in the entire country, courtesy of a string of aggressive tax hikes from 2014-2017 that were never reduced in a meaningful capacity

    • In addition to the 4.3% increase last year, we have subversive tax increases in the form of town amenities increasing in price (Parking & Beach passes)

    • During periods of uncertainly and climbing costs of living, the Town of Oyster Bay should be doing everything in it’s power put money in your pocket and not push out residents

  • Representation

    • There is currently a monopoly on politics in the Town of Oyster Bay held by Republican Party since the 1990s

    • A considerable amount of the people outside main political hubs are suffering from a lack of representation

  • Environmental and Water concerns

    • Delays on Liberty Water have allowed residences to be charged ridiculously more than their neighbors, while the price of remedying the problem has only increased

    • Concerns over Commander Oil tankers in Oyster Bay, and the previous uses of the land’s impact on the soil, need to be taken seriously to ensure the healthy of the harbor and purity of the water.

Why this race matters

The past does not have to define the future, and these battles are worth fighting. There are easier races, conversations, and circumstances. If we deem this to not be worth it we concede to a one party system in the 3rd largest town in America. I can’t think of something less beneficial to the voices of residents than a government that is not challenged or contested. The more active and vigilant we are the more likely we are to get something done, and take meaningful steps towards a better tomorrow.
